“Teachers shall be responsible for guiding and monitoring student use of PWCS computer systems and network services and for providing Internet safety instruction to students”
- AUP Reg 295-1 P.4
Teachers should implement information about appropriate computer use and Internet safety throughout the year into technology integrated lessons. The following highlights the four areas that teachers should cover.
Safety

Define Internet bullying and what a student should do if they are being bullied

Advise students to avoid inappropriate content and procedures that should be followed if it is found inadvertently
Copyright

Communicate to students that respecting copyright laws for music, images and documents downloaded from the Internet is important

Teach students to correctly cite Internet Resources in bibliographies

Emphasize that getting answers for homework or copying essays is cheating!
Computer Maintainence

Teach students to correctly identify computer parts by name

Emphasize that all hardware should be handled carefully to prevent damage

Warn students about pop up ads and e mail viruses and how these can harm computers
Appropriate Use

Emphasize to students that work posted on the Internet is representing themselves and the school so they should consider carefully what they write. The Internet is forever!

Warn students that accessing another persons files to copy or change their document is cheating!

Teach students to use the Internet effeciently and effectively while doing research
